Hongyan Sun

Biography

Prof. Hongyan Sun received her B.Sc. from Wuhan University and PhD from the National University of Singapore. Following her doctorate, she was awarded a fellowship by the Humboldt Foundation and conducted postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology. In 2011, she joined the City University of Hong Kong, where she was promoted to Associate Professor in 2017 and Full Professor in 2024. Prof. Sun’s group has developed numerous fluorescent probes for detecting therapeutically relevant biomolecules such as HDACs. Her research team has extensive experience and expertise in probe design and synthesis, fluorescence characterization, and bioimaging experiments. Prof. Sun has published over 100 papers in prestigious journals, including Chemical Society Reviews, Journal of the American Chemical Society, and Angewandte Chemie. Her current research focuses on developing innovative fluorescent probes for biological applications.
